Alta is one of the most beautiful ski areas. With different types of terrain and mountain scenery, Alta Ski Area sets the stage for an unforgettable skiing experience. Due to the snow’s characteristics, Alta is constantly rated #1 for snow quality in Utah. Because of the Great Salt Lake is nearby, Alta benefits from the lake effect. The saltiness of the lake provides the mountains with light, powdery snow.

Many experienced skiers choose to ski at Alta Ski Area because of the unique snow. The snow is also soft, which benefits all those beginners who have a hard time staying on their feet.

One of Alta’s drawbacks is that it is a ski-only experience. If you are a snowboarder, you should take note that this major resort does not allow you access.

Alta Ski Area provides not only stunning scenery, but also great runs. Alta provides an exciting experience especially for experienced skiers. Not only is there 2,200 acres of skiable terrain, but there is a vertical drop of 2,020 feet.

Beginning skiers don’t have the luck of the draw at Alta. Due to the more difficult terrain and runs, Alta is a paradise for intermediate and advanced skiers.

Just 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City and about 33 miles from the Salt Lake International Airport, Alta Ski Area is conveniently located for both locals and visitors. There is also a ski bus route from many locations in Salt Lake City that take you right to the base of Alta’s lifts.

Skiers can benefit from the convenient schedule at Alta as well. You can enjoy a full day of skiing if you prefer, or you can just go for the morning, afternoon, or even half-day.

If you aren’t persuaded yet, lift tickets at Alta Ski Area are well-priced. For example, the cost of an adult’s season pass 2007/2008 is only $59. Discounted tickets are priced at $54. In addition, Alta has ranked number 1 by SKIING magazine for five years in a row (from 2002-2006).
