Welcome to Skiing in Utah

Utah's nickname, "greatest snow on earth," is dubbed that for a reason. It is no joke that Utah has the greatest snow. Skiing in Utah is said to be so great because of the type of snow that the state has.

Due to the lake effect, when storms come through the Salt Lake Valley they take the moisture from the lake and dump it onto the mountains. The powder is so light because the Great Salt Lake is so salty. Most of the ski resorts in the area benefit from this lake effect, making the skiing conditions pristine.

If you like snow sports, skiing in Utah is probably the best place to visit. There are a total of seven world-class ski resorts in Utah's Wasatch Mountains and thirteen downhill resorts all together. Most of these resorts offer great slopes, amenities, shops, restaurants, and lodging.

All of these resorts are in reasonable driving distances (20-45 minutes from the Salt Lake Valley). If you are visiting from out of town, and are flying into Salt Lake International Airport, the ski resorts are about an hour's drive way.

Due to the amount of resorts and what they offer, you will feel like the possibilities are endless. There is great terrain, ling run, and light, deep powder. This makes skiing in Utah a great choice for vacationing.

You may wonder why the Winter 2002 Olympics were hosted by Utah. Because of these pristine snow conditions, Utah blows any other state out of the water. Utah's resorts housed many athletes during this time. Because of all the publicity, many resorts have upgraded their facilities. All of Utah's ski resorts intend to provide you and your family with the best skiing experience.

Ski resorts in Utah are topnotch. You might want to look into vacationing at any of these resorts: Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, Solitude, Sundance, Deer Valley, Park City, Brian Head, and The Canyons. All of these resorts offer great lodging, nice restaurants, and obviously, great skiing.

Skiing in Utah typically starts mid- to late-November (when the snow season starts), and usually lasts through April. If your calendar isn't booked sometime between those months, you should give skiing in Utah a chance.
